MCU Update Tips for P-Series Cameras

MCU Update Tips for P-Series Cameras

Symptoms of MCU Update Failure

Sometimes, when attempting the MCU portion of the firmware update for our P-Series cameras,  the MCU update does not complete properly. There are a few things that may indicate an unsuccessful MCU update:

  • The MCU number reading “NONE” in the WebUI

  • NDI, SDI, or HDMI failure after an update

  • Unusual behavior that was not present before the update

MCU Update Tips

In the above cases, it is often helpful to reattempt the MCU portion of the firmware update, using the following tips (in addition to the provided update instructions):

  1. Make sure your USB drive is formatted properly.
For assistance in formatting a USB drive see the first step in the article here
  2. Try as many USB drives as you have on hand.
We use the following drive at BirdDog Support, which has provided consistent success with MCU updates. If you are located in the United States, you can purchase this USB here: Amazon USB

  3. Try formatting the USB using the following tips:

  • Format the drive to FAT16 (instead of FAT32 as listed in our documentation)

  • Change the media type from GPT to MBR: How to Convert GPT into MBR

  • Try partitioning the drive to 256MB instead of the 8/2GB recommendation in some of our other documentation.

If you need help with the above formatting, you can reference the following video resource: How to Format your USB Drive for MCU Update
