USB Reimage Instructions
BirdDog 4K SDI, HDMI and QUAD Converters
This document provides instructions on updating the 4K Converter.
What You’ll Need
• 1 downloaded BirdDog 4K converter update .zip file for your device.
• FAT32 formatted USB drive.
• 1 x BirdDog 4K converter device.
Procedure
a. Extract the .GZ image file in the step 2 folder, the file should be about 3.6Gb
when properly extracted.
b. Rename the file (not the containing folder) to BirdDog_USB.img
c. Copy this file (without the containing folder) to the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB
drive.
If your flash drive is not formatted as FAT32, format it using a Windows 10 computer. The following
video provides instructions on this and the process should only take a few minutes.
Formatting your USB drive
To check how your flash drive is formatted, insert the flash drive into a Windows computer,
open My Computer and right-click on the flash drive. In most cases, this is the D: or E: drive. Select
Properties from the menu. The file system (FAT32) should be specified near the top of the
Properties window.
d. Insert the USB drive into front port of the converter while the device is powered off.
e. Locate the Reset button to the right of the converter USB port. Use a pin tool to press and hold
the button while plugging in the power via the RJ45 or DC adaptor. Continue holding down the
button for 20 seconds and release.
f. Wait for the update process to finish - this can take up to 10 minutes.
g. Once finished, the Tally LED will flash green and red, indicating that the update was successful.
h. Power down the converter and remove the USB drive. Return the power to the converter.
i. If the converter falls back to an IP Address of 192.168.100.100, press the Reset button again for 8
seconds and then release. The device should then obtain a DHCP IP address.
j. Log in to the converter via the BirdUI and click the Reboot button on the Dashboard.
k. Your converter should now be fully operational.
