Silicon 2 USB Update Instructions
This document provides instructions on updating the 4K Converter.
What You’ll Need
- 1 downloaded Si2 4K converter update .zip file for your device.
- FAT32 formatted USB drive.
- SD Card Formatter software for best results
- 1 x BirdDog 4K HDMI or SDI device.
Procedure
1. Insert your USB Drive into your computer and format the drive using a software called
SD Card Formatter- Make sure that your USB is drive is reformatted to only 1 partition. If you're on Windows check disk management, often a EFI disk partition can be on the USB drive and a standard Windows format will NOT clear it.
- Below is a screenshot of a USB drive right after trying to use windows default reformat, the 4K device will try to read the primary petition and never read the unallocated part that the update image is on.
After formatting your USB drive should look like this, you can now proceed to the downloaded folder
2.. Extract the downloaded folder that you downloaded from the BirdDog.tv website
3. Extract the
"BirdDog4kBoxMPv4rxfw330d04apr25vcu.gz" file, you can utilize a software like "
7-zip" if your default tool doesn't work.
You will know if it worked when the file is about 3.6Gb when properly extracted. The File will be about 700mb if still wrapped in the .gz file
4. Rename the extracted file (not the containing folder) to "BirdDog_USB"
5. Copy this file (without the containing folder) to the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB
drive.
6. Insert the USB drive into front port of the converter while the device is powered off.
7. Locate the Reset button to the right of the converter USB port. Use a pin tool to press and hold
the button while plugging in the power via the RJ45 or DC adaptor. Continue holding down the
button for 12 seconds and release.
8. Wait for the update process to finish (this can take up to 10 minutes)
9. Once finished, the Tally LED will flash green and red, indicating that the update was successful.
10. Power down the converter and remove the USB drive. Return the power to the converter. (The first boot can take a couple minutes, the screen might appear blank for 2 minutes or so)
11. Your converter should now be fully operational.
