Recovering A Lost IP with IPv6

Recovering A Lost IP with IPv6

Overview

If you are unable to locate the IP address for your BirdDog convertors, P-Series cameras, or A-Series cameras, IPv6 is a process that can help recover access to your unit.* This recovery process has been outlined step by step below.

* Please note: IPv6 is not compatible with our X-Series or MAKI cameras. For assistance in recovering the IP for these units, please refer to the following article: X-Series & MAKI Recovery

Using a MAC to IPv6 Converter

  1. First, convert the MAC address of the unit to a IPv6 Link-local address using the following tool: MAC to IPv6 Converter

    • Type in the MAC address of the unit in the appropriate field. The tool will automatically generate the IPv6 Link-local address. Be sure to copy the MAC exactly as it is listed on the unit itself.

  2. Next, type the following text into your browser search bar: http://[ ]

    • Copy and paste the IPv6 Link-local address that was generated by the MAC to IPv6 converter tool into the square brackets. Do not include any spaces.

    • The address format should model the following: http://[xxxx::xxxx:xx:xxxx:xxxx]
      * Please be sure to type the address exactly as it is listed – without doing so, this process will not work.

  3. Hit “Enter” to locate this device on your network. This will pull up the WebUI of the unit. The IP address can be found in the Dashboard tab, under “System Details.”

    • If this does not work, we would recommend attempting this process using an Incognito tab.
